The Burton New Zealand Open!

The snowboard season is almost upon us! Actually in some places like New Zealand it has already begun. The second of many stops in the TTR World Snowboard Tour has been completed with both a slopestyle and halfpipe event. Canadian Mark McMorris, one of the first kids to land a triple cork, and American Jamie Anderson were the victors in slopestyle.

American Kelly Clark won in women's halfpipe while Ryo Aono at the mere age of twelve won in men's.

Currently Roope Tonteri of Finland and Silvia Mittermüller of Germany hold the overall number one ranking.

More Trailers for the 2011-2012 Season!

Capita Snowboards will be releasing their first team video this year "Defenders of Awesome." I'm excited to see Absinthe rider Cale Zima in this film; he's one of the toughest snowboarders I've ever seen and can take a beating like no other. Jess Kimura, Think Thank's talented female rider and winner of Transworld's "Video Part of the Year" will be in this film too. Of course the incredible and talented Scott Stevens will be featured as well. Fastplant fingerflip? Not a problem for this guy...

Finger On Da Trigger in association with Mark Frank Montoya will be releasing "Familia 2" this upcoming season. Technine heavy hitters Dylan Thompson, Jonah Owen, and Lucas Magoon will have parts as well as former Think Thank rider Austin Hironaka. Johnnie Paxson will be back as well after his full arm break from last year.  He had the ender in "Hard to Earn" a few years back and I have high expectations from him this year. If you like high consequence urban riding this will be the film to watch next year.
Standard Films, which started under the name Totally Board years back, will be releasing its 20th film this season "TB20." Standard has always been at the forefront of snowboarding progression and I doubt this year will disappoint. This crew has some serious talent.  Torstein Horgmo, the first rider to land a triple cork, and the Helgason brothers will have parts as well as old school legend Kevin Jones. I'm also excited to see that Aaron Biittner and Mads Jonsson have parts in this film as well.  It looks to be a great one!

Trailers for "The Art of Flight"

Brain Farm, in association with Red Bull, will be releasing another video this upcoming season following the success of their last flick "That's It, That's All." Here are the two trailers they have released thus far...

This promises to be a good one; a lot of money has been put into this film to make sure it is top-notch. The best high-definition cameras, the best riders, and incredible landscapes. If you love backcountry riding, huge jumps, and massive cliffs this will be the film to watch next season. Featuring the legendary riding of Travis Rice, John Jackson, Mark Landvik, Scotty Lago, Jake Blauvelt, Nicolas Muller, Gigi Ruf, DCP, and Pat Moore.

Bode Merrill in "Neverland"

This part is definitely one of my favorites of all time. Bode Merrill has got to be one of the most talented snowboarders to have ever lived. If you don't believe me, check out the last trick in my One-Footers post from a few weeks ago. In his first year with Absinthe he managed to get the ender which is no easy feat!

Don't Do It In the Park!

If you've ever tried setting up an urban handrail or jump you know it attracts a lot of attention, both good and bad. I've been confronted by angry neighbors, annoyed cops, confused pedestrians, and dumbfounded kids but never someone as strange as this guy...

Trailers for the 2011-2012 Season!

The 2011-2012 season is close and snowboard companies are putting the final touches on their upcoming releases. An exciting time for sure because these films are an opportunity to show the snowboard community how the sport has changed and progressed over the past year. First we have a trailer for the upcoming Burton video "Standing Sideways." Legendary rail rider and newly proclaimed Burton am Ethan Diess will have a part in this film as well as Mark McMorris, one of the first riders to land a triple cork. Others include legends such as Terje Haakonsen, Nicolas Müller, and Jeremy Jones.

Kids on Shred Productions, in affiliation with Rome Snowboards, will be releasing "The Shred Remains" this upcoming season. Johnny Lazz is no longer an am and his part promises to be a great one. LNP always knows how to throw down creative and innovative parts; the back one tail grab gap rail midway through looks incredible! Rusty Ockenden, who landed the ender for Sandbox's "Now You Know," will also have a part in this film.
"Vacation" will be Forum's newest video and hopefully it can live up to the popularity of their last release "F IT." Forum regulars like Stevie Bell, Jake Welch, Nic Sauve, Andreas Wiig, and Pat Moore will have parts. Unfortunately John Jackson, who had the ender for the last two Forum videos, doesn't have a part. He is instead filming for the upcoming Red Bull video with Travis Rice and I hope the Forum video doesn't suffer without his presence.
I will post more trailers as they become available. Check out some earlier ones I posted as well!

One-Footers!

One-footers are awesome, plain and simple. Check out this edit from High Cascade featuring Scotty Vine, Scott Stevens, Mike Ravelson, Jesse Burtner, and Bode Merrill. Inverted japan air 720? No problem for Bode!

"Tabarnac" Teaser

The Canadian film company Brothers Factory just released a trailer for their upcoming feature "Tabarnac."  Based on the trailer it looks like it will contain some heavy tricks.  They boast legendary riders as well: Nico Sauve, who had the opener for Forum's "F IT" will make an appearance as well as Transworld Rookie of the Year Phil Jacques.  Others are Burton rider Charles Reid, Jason DuBois, and Jeremy Cloutier.  Make sure to check out Frank April's insane frontside wallride too!

"Ransack Rebellion" Shorts

The Think Thank crew has been putting in a lot of time prepping for their newest movie "Ransack Rebellion" and it has been paying off. Here is a series of clips from their riders. The first one is of Jason Robinson, a rookie on the Think Thank crew who managed to bag the ender in "Right Brain Left Brain."

Next we have Sean Black, former Variety Pack rider who had the opener for "The Leak." Now he's been brought onto the Think Thank crew and his part promises to be a good one.

Next is Jesse Burtner, the mastermind of Think Thank and one footed trickster extraordinaire.

Austin Hironaka has been on the Think Thank crew for several years now and his super smooth style is always a pleasant sight.

Next we have Sam Hulbert, whose great part in the Eastern Boarder video a few years back drew the attention of Jesse Burtner. Great rider for sure!

Lastly we have Pat Milbery, another seasoned member of the Think Thank crew. How long has he worn that helmet? I've seen him wearing that thing for at least five seasons...

Summertime Snowboarding!

While most of us are sitting on our couches trying to find something to do with our summer free time there are lucky people who get to snowboard year round! High Cascade Snowboard Camp is one such place where the lucky gather for some warm weather shred. Check out how much fun these fools are having! This first video features some great riding from Jed Anderson, east coaster Mike Ravelson, and of course Scott Stevens. Backflip rock and roll? Not a problem for Scotty.

Here's another from High Cascade. Good to see Scotty Lago in this one; this guy has such great style in the air. Props to Spencer Schubert as well for a great three on, pretzel three off.

Portland is home to another great snowboard camp known as Windells. I've already posted one video from this camp but here is their second session video. Props to Justin Fronius for some super stylish tricks at the end.

Up in Whistler some hammers have been thrown down as well. Camp of Champions gets a great crop of riders including Joe Sexton, Jake Kuzyk, Phil Jacques (Transworld's Rookie of the Year), and Marc Swoboda. Hammer of the video definitely goes to Matt Belzile for a lofty back rodeo seven. Probably one of the best looking tricks a man can do.  Click here to watch!

Superpark Edits from Snowboarder Mag

Every year Snowboarder Mag throws their "Superpark Showdown," a contest in which different teams compete with one another to see who can come up with the best edit edit at Superpark. This first one comes from Arbor Snowboards. Not the best in my opinion but Scotty Vine certainly deserves respect for this edit. His one-footed exploits are certainly turning heads; make sure to check out his one-footed frontside 720.

Here we've got the ice coasters from Keep the Change. Throwing down a pretty solid edit as well!

Lastly we've got from the boys north of the U.S. border, Nuulife!  Despite the popularity of the Think Thank crew they managed to move onto the next round. Good editing plus a Jay-Z and Jimi Hendrix mash-up? Definitely a winner!

Jess Kimura Capita Clip

Here's another clip for Capita's upcoming movie "Defenders of Awesome." I have to say, Jess Kimura is one bad chick. Watching her slam section in Think Thank's "Right Brain Left Brain" made me feel like such a little wimp. She is tough as they come and has serious skills.

Scott Stevens Capita Clip

So we all know Scott Stevens is the man, but seriously, how is that last trick possible? Here's a short clip of him in the upcoming Capita movie "Defenders of Awesome." Fast-plant finger flips? Bringing it to the next level as always...

Another Mark Sollors Montage!

What can I say, the man is a good snowboarder and deserves another post!
This first clip is of him winning the Grenade Games at Whistler last year. Bombing moguls, smashing gates, winning cars. Mark Sollors is indeed a radical dude.

This other clip is his part in Transworld's last film "In Color" chopped and screwed by the folks at Burton Snowboards. Check out that cab 900 at the end. Wow, what a banger! This guy has some serious skills and deserves some serious respect.

"One" by GIVIN

Here's a new teaser for the upcoming GIVIN film "One." It certain doesn't look like it will disappoint; it's got heavy hitters Keegan Valaika, Forest Bailey, Alex Stathis, Mason Aguirre, and many others.

Windells Session 1 Recap

Windells just released a new video for their most recent summer session. Make sure you see Johnny Lazz, Forest Bailey, and Justin Norman rip it up.

Tuesday, June 14, 2011

Seb Toots Full Part from ESPN

Seb Toots is a Canadian snowboarder who has moved into the spotlight this past year. He won X-Games Slopstyle, got 2nd in Big Air, and is one of the elite few to land a triple cork! This kid clearly has skills. He is also an incredible street rider and lands his tricks with incredible precision and style. Check out this part because it will definitely be one of the best this year.

"Times Flies" by Grow Up Productions

Here's a cool little snowboard film for you! This crew is from South Lake Tahoe and they can throw down pretty hard. Make sure you see Nikki Weiss's ender; he's a great rider with super smooth style. Watch in HD too!

"Ransack Rebellion" by Think Thank

Here's the trailer for Think Thank's upcoming feature "Ransack Rebellion." Looks great, I hope it is up to par with their last feature "Right Brain Left Brain," one of the best snowboard films I have seen. Former Variety Pack riders Sean Black and Ted Borland are now a part of the Think Thank crew. I'm excited to see what they will bring to the table; they are both very creative and technical riders.

Jed Anderson and Scott Stevens with YoBeat

YoBeat is a really cool snowboard blog I recently stumbled upon and every Tuesday they post a clip featuring a specific rider. Recently they've been posting clips from Park City in Utah, a great resort I had the pleasure of visiting last year. First we have a clip of Jed Anderson; his skills on a snowboard put most to shame...

and also one of Scott Stevens. His creativity and technical skill blow my mind!

Ethan Diess on the Burton Am Team!

Midwest rail rider extraordinaire Ethan Diess is now on the Burton Am Team! This guy put out a banger rail part in the Role Models film last year and now his hard work and skills have paid off. Now that he's riding with the premiere snowboard company he is getting the recognition he deserves. Check out these two Burton clips of him. The fact he can jump into a nosepress on a skinny and steep down rail is incredible.

This next gap at Northstar is probably one of the most intense box gaps I have ever seen. And it is his warm-up trick; I wonder what his banger was...

Skateboarding Snowboarders!

Summer time has come around and it is time for us snowboarders to figure out what to do with ourselves now that there isn't any snow. What can we do? How about skateboarding? Check out how these snowboard pros keep occupied during the summer. First we have Scott Stevens, Austen Granger, Bode Merrill, Chris Bereford, Chris Grenier, and Ben Bogart in a bonus edit from Think Thank's "Cool Story."

Next we have a clip of Jed Anderson, Jake Kuzyk, and LNP shredding a couple of skateparks. Pretty sick...

One wonders if Jed is good enough to go pro in skateboarding as well...

Lastly there is Shaun White. We all know he rips on a snowboard and most of us know he also is an incredible vert skater. Check out his victory video at a Dew Tour stop a few years ago.

"Shoot the Moon" Teaser by Videograss

Check out a preview of Videograss's newest feature "Shoot the Moon." "Bon Voyage" was a hit and this one doesn't look to disappoint.

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Scott Stevens in "Right Brain Left Brain"

This is the video part of the year in my opinion. Scott Stevens is one of the most talented boarders I have ever seen; his creativity in both snowboarding and skateboarding is unmatched.

Props to Think Thank as well for excellent filming and editing. They may be a small crew now but they have talented riders and going to continue to grow as a film company.

Thursday, May 19, 2011

Johnny Lazz and Lucas Wilson at Windells!

That time of year has come around when snowboarders are all sitting on their couches, wishing next season would come around a bit faster. Well, there are a few oases that are still available to us boarders, one being Windells summer camp in Portland, Oregon. Check out some action from two riders, Johnny and Lucas. These kids are pretty nuts...

Jake Koia - New Zealand Snowboarder

It's been a while since my last post so I decided to make a good one. Here are some clips of up and coming New Zealand snowboarder Jake Koia. The first clip is of him attempting a triple backflip for the GIVIN crew. Does he get it? I hope so; some of these attempts are pretty damn close.

He also managed to bag a pretty good part in Sandbox's "Now You Know" in 2010. Check it out below.

Here's a Red Bull profile of Jake with him discussing what its like to be a pro snowboarder. Check it!

Monday, April 4, 2011

Jed Anderson in "Bon Voyage"

Along with Joe Sexton's part in "Cheers," this is probably the best rail part I have ever seen. Jed Anderson can do it all, regular and switch. Gap back 270s to fakie! This dude is nuts...

He separates himself from other riders in that he does multiple tricks at almost every spot. Make sure to check out 3:15 to 3:48; he lands thirteen tricks on one rail! So unreal.

Loon Mountain Shredding!

Here I have two great clips from the "Loonatics," a group of east coast riders who film at the Loon Mountain park.  These kids are nasty; they seem to learn at least twenty new tricks every video...

In this video I'm going to give my props to Mike Ravelson and Dylan Dragotta; they absolutely destroy the wall ride rail in this video. I didn't even know doing a 360 onto those things was possible!

Epic Train Gap!

About twenty years ago, in the midst of snowboarding's early days, Temple Cummins and Andy Hetzel aired their legendary frontside airs over a train at Donner Pass in the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Trevor Jacobs revisited this spot this season and landed a couple of tricks on the same gap. Check it out!

Monday, March 21, 2011

32 Spot Check - East Coast Edition

The first one is at Loon Mountain in New Hampshire. Johnny O'Conner kills it; this kid has great style and does technical tricks, look out for him in the future.
This was filmed at Hunter Mountain right above New York City. Brendon Hobush always rides with great style and props to Dylan Alito for a good ender in this one.

Friday, March 11, 2011

BEARaoke!

Check out this episode of Nick Visconti and friends hitting up the Bear Mountain terrain park. It's always sick to see Nick ride but super props to Scott Vine for some flossy one footed tricks at the end!

The First Triple Cork 1440!

Canadian snowboarder Mark McMorris landed the first official triple cork 1440 only a few days ago! Not only did he land it but he stomped it and then stomped it again. We were all blown away by Torstein Horgmo's triple but this is the real deal.

This young kid is really proving he's a incredible rider. Check out his silver medal run in Winter X-Games 15.

Just so you can see things from his perspective, check out this helmet cam video of him throwing down a cab double cork 1260.

Dangerzone in "North Lake Versus South Lake"

One of the funniest yet gnarliest videos I've seen in a while. Nick Visconti set up this funny contest with three disciplines: racing, jumping, and jibbing. It's amazing the variety of tricks these riders can pull off. Very humbling too...

Featuring Nick Visconti, Tim Eddy, Jordan Nield, Sam Hulbert, Niki Wiess, and Scotty Hoffman.

John Jackson in "F IT" Repost!

Here's the part that won him Transworld's video part of the year! I posted it earlier in the year but unfortunately it was taken down...

Tuesday, February 22, 2011

Burton Hip Session!

Hip sessions are my favorite. Why? It's a time when pros forget about doing double corks and other tech tricks and just try to boost some serious height with style. Nothing beats that feeling of hanging lazily in the air doing only a grab or a mellow spin.

This definetely one of the best sessions I have ever seen. Featuring Mikkel Bang, Keegan Valaika, Mads Johnson, Mark Sollors, Jack Mitrani, and last but not least Charlies Reid. Just wait for his last trick; I've never seen someone that high on a hip before!

Monday, February 21, 2011

O'Neill Evolution 2011!

Here are some clips of the O'Neill Evolution contest earlier this year. Pretty gnarly! Seb Toots of course kills it; I mean pole jam frontside rodeo and cab double cork 1260 is pretty hard to beat! His gold in the Winter X-Games was definitely well deserved; he's a phenomenal rider for sure.

Thursday, February 17, 2011

Nike 6.0 Stairset Battle Final!

It's been a long time since I've seen a rail jam quite like this one!  This contest definitely shows how far rail riding has come these last few year!  Some very heavy tricks were thrown down at this contest; almost everyone seemed like they should have won!

The results were as follows:
1. Mike Casanova (USA)
2. Jamie Nicholls (GBR)
3. Forest Bailey (USA)
4. Wojtek Pawlusiak (POL)
5. Keegan Valaika (USA)
6. Eiki Helgason (ICE)
7. Dani Rajcsanyi (GER)
8. Boris Bühler (SUI)

Loonatics!

Unfortunately east coast shredding often doesn't get enough attention. Regardless, that doesn't mean these kids can't kill it. Check out this edit from Loon Mountain in New Hampshire; it's pretty damn dope!

Monday, February 7, 2011

Joe Sexton in "Cheers"

I managed to find a video of his ender in "Cheers," People's flick this year. Check it out; Joe is truly a gifted rail rider. He took a beating last season to get this part; props to him for that! Hopefully it'll stay up long enough on YouTube for people to see and appreciate it...

"Day and Age" by Sandbox

"Now You Know" is definitely one of the best snowboard flicks this year and it looks like Sandbox doesn't plan to disappoint next year as well! Check out their early season teaser for "Day and Age;" it looks like they've already thrown down some pretty solid bangers!

Wednesday, February 2, 2011

"Ammo" Teaser!

Dropping next year is "Ammo," a film by 32 and Etnies. I'm definetely looking forward to it; some of my favorite riders like Brandon Hobush, Chris Brewster, and Tyler Flanagan (got bronze in X-Games slopestyle this year!) will be shredding in this flick!

Other riders include Dylan Alito, Spencer Schubert, Mike Ravelson, Johnny Brady, Parker Worthen, Stale Sandbech, and Brandon Larson.

Torstein Killing It!

Since he landed the triple cork in the X-Games (debatable whether or not he actually landed it but still pretty gnarly), Torstein Horgmo has been getting a lot of attention. He's a great rider and definitely deserves to be in the spotlight! Here's a video of him riding for DC Shoes with some footage from his part in this year's Standard Film "The Storming."

Sunday, January 30, 2011

Think Thank Presents "Ransack Rebellion"

Think Thank will be back next year with their newest flick "Ransack Rebellion"! I'm of course looking forward to it! I'm also psyched to see Variety Pack riders Ted Borland and Sean Black thrown into the mix; they are both awesome snowboarders that will definitely add a lot to this film.

Ransack Rebellion teaser from Jesse Burtner on Vimeo.

32's Spot Check at Mammoth Mountain!

Here's a pretty awesome park clip of some 32 riders at Mammoth Mountain in California. Featuring Jared Dawoud, Frank Knab, Scott Blum, and Tyler Flanagan. Tyler's riding is always impressive to watch, even when he just bombs the race course like in this video.

Tuesday, January 25, 2011

Torstein Horgmo in "The Storming" Remix!

Torstein managed to get the ender for this year's Standard flick "The Storming." Check out his part from this year cropped and remixed.

Friday, January 21, 2011

Jibistory!

I really like this video; it shows how technical rail riding has become in snowboarding. Many of people don't realize how complex it actually is. Nick Visconti is quite the character too; I definitely laughed a couple of times watching this vid.

Cab 1440!

Tricks are definitely getting crazy nowadays! Check out this clip of Roope Tonteri stomping a cab 1440 at the European Open this year!

Louis-Félix Paradis X-Games Ad

Louis put out a sick part this year for Videograss's "Bon Voyage." This year he is back at it again and showing the world that he is one of the best street riders. This video will air during the Winter X-Games this year. Check it out!

Halldor Helgason in Breckenridge

Halldor has always impressed me not just because his riding (which is incredible) but also his attitude. He snowboards not to win contests but because he loves the sport. Not only that, but he appreciates how lucky he is to snowboard for a living. Check out this Nike 6 video of him riding at Breckenridge and also discussing his perspective on the sport.

"The Peace Process" Full Movie

Ian Post and the boys from Burlington are letting people watch their new video for free on Vimeo! Make sure you check out Yale Cousino and Luke Haddock's parts; they are great riders for sure.

Monday, January 3, 2011

Joe Sexton Montage!

Joe is definitely one of the best rail riders of our time.  Though he used to be a small time rider, now he's shredding with the big guns like Jeremy Jones, JP Walker, and Seth Huot.  Even more impressively, he got the ender for People's newest film "Cheers" despite the heavy competition. Here's his part in last year's Stepchild film "This Video Sucks." Him and JP certainly have an funny dynamic.

Here he is in Bear Mountain's park video from last year "The Bearics."

This next clip is a commercial from one of his sponsors, 32 Boots. Wow this rail has a lot of kinks!

This last clip is of him talking about what it took for him to get the ender in "Cheers" this year. I think most of us can appreciate the frustration of not landing a trick; in this video Joe talks about the determination necessary to get past these mental roadblocks.
